I painted “Sparkle Plenty” while visiting my sister in Florida
in early 2000. I had a photo
taken at a cruise in on upper Main in Vancouver that was full of reflected
sunlight off the chrome. I
liked the way the sparkles lost parts of the car and lit up the photo.
I cut off the back end and focused on the grill area and painted
what I felt, not what I thought I saw.
I abstracted the foreground and background with arbitrary shapes
that also went through the car, uniting the painting.
After doing a quick impressionist drawing on newsprint, I copied it
on watercolor paper with a crayon. Then
I used a water based wall paint to produce texture. I followed up, using
acrylics, gouache, and watercolors.
It was an experimental procedure that was exciting and fun.
It certainly is a one of a kind painting.
This
painting has been entered in two national watercolor exhibits.
One in the Red River Watercolor Society in Fargo, ND, and the
second in the Montana Watercolor Society exhibit. I had limited addition Giclee prints made in the summer of
2000.THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PAINTING.
