Lace - The Easy and Fun Way!

Lesson # 2, Page 1 - The Flowers and the Pot

In this lesson we will learn a little about drawing. If you have followed the last lesson and have your lace sprayed in already, you can now take off the masking fluid with a “pick it up eraser” (sold at most art supply stores).

Now you can begin to draw in your Geraniums on the white of the paper or whatever flowers you would like to use. If you haven’t started yet, we will begin by drawing our flowers and pot. You can make this as simple as you would like or complicated with lots of detail. In my second drawing, I have chosen to place in more detail.

If you would like to do the easier one, go back to Lesson #1.

I took a photo of a Geranium pot with scattered sunlight on it. You can either download this and put it up on a projector, (to copy the outline only), draw it free hand or enlarge it and trace it. There are several ways to draw this. Of course there is nothing like drawing from life. If you have the time, go and purchase a Geranium pot at your local nursery and sit and draw it from life. The color is more vivid, it’s easier to see, the nuisances of all the changes of values are easy to draw in when right in front of you

No matter which way you decide to draw it be careful of your placement. Refer back to Lesson 1 for the composition.  You don’t have to “copy” the drawing exactly like the photograph-give yourself some “artistic license” and be more creative. Figure out what the leaves generally look like and think in small, medium and large shapes. Be careful of the “negative” shapes also.

When finished, close that window and continue the lesson.
