Having taken Betsy's workshop on Intuitive Floral Painting, I was
intrigued with her teaching style as well as her talent! She is a
generous and caring instructor, who gives quick and witty answers to her
students' questions. Recently I found a back issue of Watercolor
Magic (Summer 1999) with an article she wrote entitled
"Painting from the Inside Out".
The article enhanced my experience in her workshop. As she says in the article, an
artist must strive to be more than a good technician. You must
"learn to paint not only the world outside, but the worlds
within." |

Betsy uses her masterly skill at "trompe-l'oeil", along
with spontaneous methods. She will pour paint, throw paint, and
splash paint. She uses any material that helps her achieve her
objective. And she is willing to change her objective and let the
medium take her where it will. Betsy's paintings reveal a lot of herself - they are an exploration
of her dreams and her emotions, and you will get caught up in the
meaning. ~ G. Angelino
Note: Paintings 6 through 10 are floral
paintings. Betsy says, "My book title is Painting From the
Inside Out. There is a chapter called "Say It with
Flowers" that will have seven approaches to painting flowers.
The book contains lots of improvisational and spontaneous exercises
designed to "free the creative spirit." It is a
multi-media book in that I work both with acrylic and watercolor.
It was published by Northlight in April, 2002." See
